The COVID-19 Emergency Grant at Barnard
During Spring 2020, Barnard provided financial assistance for students to return home; pack, ship, and store their belongings; and access technology for online learning, as well as cash grants to address basic needs insecurities due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition, the College launched the COVID-19 Emergency Grant at Barnard on April 1 to provide emergency financial assistance to eligible students experiencing hardship that could adversely affect their educational persistence. The main criteria for a grant are the demonstration of a genuine need and that the capacity for continued study may be in jeopardy due to financial hardship. The emergency grant committee, chaired by Ariana González Stokas, the Vice President of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, provided support for more than 80 Barnard students.
The emergency grant, which was established to help students with educational persistence to the end of the semester, will close effective May 20, 2020. Please check back for updates in August regarding support for returning students as they prepare for the start of the Fall semester on September 8.
