Spring 2022 Travel Guidelines
Before Travel
For All Travelers:
- Adhere to all Barnard Pledge during travel, including indoor masking and social distancing while eating or drinking
- Exercise caution and judgment, as national and global public health context and local conditions may quickly change
- Become acquainted with local public health conditions and all rules and regulations of your destination state or country
- Follow New York State guidance upon return or arrival to campus
- Follow all Barnard return-to-campus requirements
- Continue to check this webpage leading up to any travel as the College may revise requirements as conditions change
- Wear masks indoors at all times
- Properly distance if drinking or eating indoors

Travel Approval Process
EFFECTIVE FOR TRAVEL BEGINNING JANUARY 18, 2022
All community members must continue to abide by the Barnard’s Community Commitment and Personal Responsibility Pledge and Columbia University’s International Travel Planning Policy.
Students seeking Barnard-related travel to U.S. Department of State Level 3 & 4 countries must secure written approval from the Barnard Provost’s Office. They must also register approved travel with ISOS. Visit globaltravel.columbia.edu or email globaltravel@columbia.edu for more information. Students must follow any other requirements prescribed in the University International Travel Planning Policy, based on the ISOS travel risk rating of your destination, as well as any other school-based requirements or protocols.

Faculty & Staff |
All travel must be registered with ISOS. All University International Travel Planning Policy guidelines must be followed. Requirements apply to travel from the U.S. to non-U.S. countries and to travel between non-U.S. countries, including after a return to a non-U.S. country of residence. |
New York State guidance must be followed along with guidance of destination state. |
Vaccinated Students |
All travel must be registered with ISOS. All University International Travel Planning Policy guidelines must be followed, as must all school-level requirements and protocols. For travel to countries that are U.S. Department of State Travel Advisory Level 1 & 2, travel permitted with ISOS registration. For countries that are U.S. Department of State Travel Advisory Level 3 & 4, dean’s approval required. See below.* |
